This is the best advert for Valium anyone could come up with. And the worst advert for the left simultaneously.
Quoting from the video description:
Femme Feral is the queer fight club that takes no prisoners and holds nothing back. Founded by artists Phoebe Patey-Ferguson and Anna Smith in the dark days after Britain voted to leave the European Union, the group allows women and femme-identified people a space to scream, shout, and pummel each other into the ground. We headed down to East London club VFD for their wrestling night, THERESAMAYSMACKDOWN, to find out what a feminist utopia fueled by rage looks like.
It’s not really what opposing Brexit looks like in most people’s minds, and I doubt that is more than a pretext, as most people wanting to see it turn around don’t express that by wrestling half-naked women to the ground, screaming as if possessed and in need of an ambulance.
This form of catharsis, as the founder describes, is needed due to self-imposed inhibitions in these women’s daily lives.
I paraphrase, as I can’t remember the exact quote: “we want a space where we can be sexy without being sexualised”. Catcalling is also mentioned, as well as the patriarchy.
What transpires is that feminism has filled these women with frustration, to the extent of having to gather weekly to release it in this manner. Always wary of men, they isolate themselves and refuse even innocent or slightly flirtatious interactions as offensive or even threatening.
That guarded attitude, as well as the stick up their rear ends, obviously doesn’t give them inner peace, but the exact opposite. Whatever issues they have, this doesn’t solve them.
“We want to bring down the patriarchy (…) we’re really angry about how women and femme-identified people were being treated around things like Brexit (…) and having nowhere to put that anger we fight as a form of resistance”…
“You feel empowered by the numbers…”
“I have experienced a lot of oppression, a lifetime of misogyny and haven’t found a space to let that out”…
It’s not the lifetime of misogyny that drove her to this; it was the feminist indoctrination of having a duty to fuel that rage, until she no longer knew what to do with it and looked for a way to release it.
It’s all in their heads; people go about their daily lives as they reluctantly mingle, regarding everyone with suspicion and paranoia, for “oppressing” them (particularly men).
I really hope they snap out of it as this release valve won’t work forever.
